meet Morgan

Close your eyes and picture a wave.
Now stand on the Nova Scotia shore and watch one crash at your feet. Shifting and moving with the tide, its shape is familiar and new all at once. Dynamic, imperfect and beautiful in its fluid existence.
This is the essence of Wave Ceramics.
Morgan Sheppard is a self-taught potter who fell in love with making after motherhood, when time at home gave her the chance to sit down at the wheel and practice. What started as something to explore in the quiet moments of early motherhood grew into a small pottery business, and eventually a move to Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, where Morgan now works from her 150-year-old barn studio.
Her work takes familiar functional forms and gives them a one-of-a-kind character through asymmetrical shapes, unexpected curves and glazes that have a mind of their own. Morgan makes all of her own glazes, developing combinations that have become sought after by other potters. The formulas, however, are staying a secret.
Wave Ceramics is made in small batches, with each piece intended for everyday use and to bring a little joy to the kitchen or table. Most pieces find homes almost as soon as they come out of the kiln, and Morgan currently sells through select artisan markets, retailers and occasional online releases. As the business grows, she hopes to keep the barn stocked with pottery so visitors can shop in person and see where the work is made.
Morgan’s story of moving to Mahone Bay to build a creative life and business was featured this year on HGTV’s Small Town Escapes with Colin & Justin.
In 2026, Morgan also began volunteering her time to organize the inaugural Nova Scotia Pottery Market in her new hometown of Mahone Bay. The juried market brings together potters from across the Maritimes for a day celebrating functional pottery, sculptural work and the many ways clay can be used and loved.
